Medical Malpractice Attorneys and Lawyers

How long does a Medical power of attorney last? Is there an expiration to them?

Thanks, Tom

  1. Generally they have a date they are good for when you sign them. They usually set them for a year. Check your paperwork or call and get a copy.
  2. no expiration unless stipulated or POA is revoked; best advise is if unsure, stipulate an expiration; can be revoked at any time by the patient
  3. In the US, unless there is specific term specified in the document, it is generally valid until revoked. Or until the person granting it expires.
  4. in the UK there is generally no expiration date but the position is always kept under review
  5. Check the document itself to see if there is an expiration date. If not then it lasts until revoked.
  6. it lasts forever and is irrevokeable by any anybody only the person who gave the poa can revoke it. even the courts are reluctant to cancel a poa.and even then misuse or fraud as to be evident
