Medical Malpractice Attorneys and Lawyers

Is it impossible to become a lawyer AND a doctor? Please help me guys!?

Im 17 and am currently choosing a major or a career. I have always wanted to be a doctor or a lawyer. However, I have been researching and decided that I would like to become both! I have read that medical lawyers make immense amounts of money. However, I need to know how hard it is to go to law school as you are a medical intern....Thanks!!!

  1. well, chances are your family always wanted you to become a doctor or lawyer or you have always heard this babble from society. "be a doctor or lawyer, nothing else is worth it." I'll tell you this much, if you don't mind not having a life, be a lawyer. if you want to be a doctor, you can balance having a life, somewhat, because some doctors get paid to listen to your shit, then prescribe you some medicine from which they receive "advances" from their pharmaceutical sponsor. the name of the game is money. nonetheless, your "interest" is based on fantasy. want to become a doctor AND a lawyer? its definitely possible, as long as you have no nerves and can tolerate an utterly disappointing and unsatisfying life. good luck.. on the up side, you can just prescribe yourself stimulants and anti-depressants which should help you tolerate such a miserable life.
  2. you graduate from 4 yrs of college in a science field like microbiology etc, you apply to med school. they only take about 10 % of the applicants so you prob will not get in the first time, you apply again and may get in, etc. then if you are lucky enough and smart enough, and get accepted, you go for 4 yrs and part of that is as an intern where you will be at the hospital all day and all night long on call. after that 4 yrs, you do a residency where you will be at the hospital again all night and on call several times during the week then after that 4 yrs, you decide if you want to do a specialty and that will take 2 more years. when you get out at age 28-30, you can start applying to law school but you may not get in, so you can apply the next year etc. all in all, you could have both by the age of 35. now think about how you will fund this because the cost of doing this is probably bout 150,000- 200,000 dollars. if you don't have it, you have to repay the loans, so now when you start making a salary, which in the first few yrs will be around 20,000 to 35000, how will you repay this loan at about 2500.00 a month for 20 years? see, it takes more than just wanting to be something, it takes a lot of hard work and money to get there, my guess is, you aren't that interested.
  3. i believe it's possible. I've seen commercials whereas a lawyer says he can defend u especially because of medical malpractice and they'd say dont worry because that are doctors or have PhD's or whatever
  4. Yes, there are programs out there that offer what is known as "joint degrees" or "dual degrees" which in this case includes both J.D./M.D. programs. I have samples of links to universities that give you an idea of the programs and what is involved. It doesn't hurt to call the school and request for information so that you can keep it handy. Feel free to visit the links below for more information. Best of luck.
